Explanation




In the 1930s, Agatha Christie (yes! her!) met an archaeologist named Max Mallowan. After they were married (yes! married!), they embarked on a series of excavations in Iraq and Syria. And of course all of her fancy London friends were so perplexed and asked her all of these questions about what it was like. And she writes in the forward to her little, tiny, charming book, Come, Tell Me How You Live:


“Most people, probably, do not want to know. It is just the small change of conversation…”
